The Vision of the Palmares Senior Citizens Council has been created to encourage our senior citizens to lead an active and healthy life in dignity and full enjoyment of their rights and independence and promote our senior citizens' well-being and social integration. Our board is currently formed of Four volunteers, 4 Senior Citizens, and 2 Social workers.
The object of the Council is to determine the areas in which the welfare of senior citizens needs to be improved. Our Seniors are always in touch with one another, so they are our most significant source of strength within the Council.
In addition, our Seniors brainstorm with members of the board to promote general activities and projects for the welfare of senior citizens, especially since 2020 and the cancellation of all our in- person classes. They have designed a practical project for all in- person classes to return after Covid-19 with safety first and following World Health Organization (OMS) guidelines.
Our Seniors on the board are excellent at maintaining effective communication with the rest of the senior citizens; at the Palmares Elderly Center. We also take an opportunity to diffuse knowledge and information on gerontology; to establish contacts with organizations (in their neighborhood) that provide free healthcare and food baskets.
We believe that the most significant part of our Senior Citizen Council is also a format for advising the other Seniors of the Palmares Elderly Center. We take matters relating to the welfare of senior citizens incredibly seriously.
Our Senior Citizen Council has helped set up and manage all new classes and communication vehicles to alert all members of the Palmares Elderly Center about the recreation centers' new weekly schedules and where all classes and lessons are held as well waiting lists any hybrid studies.
The Senior Citizen Council has helped implement such policies and programs in favor of all our Palmares Senior Citizens. They indeed are a shining example of how beautiful it is to see everyone working together for senior citizens to lead an active and healthy life in dignity and full enjoyment of their rights and independence and promote the well-being and social integration of our senior citizens.
Entering the golden years can be a time of renewal, growth, and self-discovery. Yet, we know that at age 65, our eyesight starts to decline. Not only is vision loss a significant health care problem among senior citizens. In addition, some of the most common eye conditions that seniors face as they age are a form of vision- reducing eye disease by 65. The most common causes of vision loss among older persons are age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataract, refractive errors, and diabetic retinopathy.
Our seniors from the Palmares Elderly Center are working longer, retiring later, staying physically active, taking classes, and working with arts and crafts. These are just a few of the ways that our seniors are making the most of their golden years. However, adjusting to eye health changes can be easier with routine eye exams.
The Palmares Elderly Center knows that senior citizens need routine eye exams because eye health is a significant concern for older persons. With time seniors might notice more aches and pains, itching, foggy vision and there is an increased risk of other eye problems.
It has become obvious to us as an NGO that one of the most prevalent risks for our seniors is a rapid deterioration in their eye health. Although (due to social vulnerability and cost) some of our seniors have never had an eye exam before, now they have had the opportunity to visit an eye doctor.
An annual eye exam from our volunteer eye doctors at
the Palmares Elderly Center can help our seniors detect early problems before they have progressed too far.
Thank you for your support always!!!
