Hi there, Robert here, it's been very difficult but worth it.
Update: We are about 20% of the way there and have already used much of these funds to pay rent for displaced families and many fans due to the over 100 degree weather we have been experiencing for the past few months. Thank you so much for your generosity.

For the past several months, Denizens Society and one faith has been supporting both recently evacuated Gazan families in Cairo as well as those who were stranded in Cairo when the border closed over 8 months ago. These people are cut off from their families and assets back home with little or no way to support themselves in a new country. Additionally, many of those who were in Egypt when the border closed came for a medical need meaning they are dealing with a disability or chronic illness on top of the poverty and trauma that's resulted from their displacement.

The aid we have provided the past few months has consisted of rental assistance, grocery supplementation, buying medicine, paying for labor + delivery and other surgeries as well as some basic furniture/ appliances such as mattresses, refrigerators, and fans (it's currently 115 f/46 c in Cairo as I type this). The team consists fully of Palestinians and Egyptians passionate about trying to fill a need where large organizations are severely lacking.

We have realized over time that this work we are doing is going to be long term. As such, we have set up a program for the continuous care of 30 Gazan households. This fundraising round is for 5 months. Those who qualify are of the most vulnerable on our case list (of over 1,000 families). The program will provide rental assistance, weekly food supplementation, and household necessities. A separate program will be established for medical assistance as we are in talks with local hospitals at the moment.

For the care of these families, we estimate the budget to be around $110,000. And we'd be happy to provide some information about the costs of some of the things we purchase:
  • Rent: $170-$425 monthly
  • Household necessities box: $13-$25 (Monthly) This includes body wash, dish soap, toilet paper, laundry detergent, etc.
  • Multiple food supplementation boxes: $63-$90 (4 per month)
  • Fans for the scorching heat: $22
  • Mattresses: $45
  • Stove: $106
  • Formula: $40
  • Refrigerator $240

Each month of aid per family costs about $450 and we've budgeted about $1,000 for appliances per family with some wiggle room for large families or ones that need formula and diapers.

That is:
67,500 for monthly expenses (450x30 families x5 months)
30,000 for appliances (1,000 per family)
10,000 for baby necessities and delivery expenses (cribs, formula, diapers for aprox 1/3 of the families and delivering everything)
3,000 for GMF Fees

If you would like to donate towards our work and see your contributions in action, please do so and follow us on @onefaithprojects.org where we try to keep everyone updated with our work. We're working on putting a website together soon as well. Rebecca, our founder, and most of the team are Palestinians. This cause is not a trend for us, it is our lives. And it would mean the world to have your support, thank you.
