Lila dreams of becoming a nurse when she grows up. But right now, her family is just praying she gets the chance to grow up at all. Your help could make that possible.
Lila was only 4 years old when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 High-Risk Neuroblastoma, an aggressive and deadly cancer responsible for taking far too many innocent lives.
The doctors gave us a 50% chance of survival and warned us that the journey ahead would be grueling. They were right.
Over the past 15 months, our precious little girl has bravely faced treatments that no child should ever endure, including:
Lila has responded well to treatment, and now she is at the end of the line for what is available here. Her hair is beginning to grow back, and she dreams of finally starting school. Her chances of survival have improved to 75%.
But the joy of this progress is overshadowed by a looming fear—relapse.
For children with HRN, a relapse is often fatal, stealing away the futures they so desperately deserve.
There is hope, though—a drug in America and Australia called DFMO, which has shown promise in reducing relapse and increasing survival rates to 85%. But time is running out.
The drug must be administered within three months of completing immunotherapy. Although it is under review for approval, this process will be too late for Lila. She needs to begin treatment by November at the latest, but we can't afford to wait.
We are trying to raise $120,000 to fund two years of life-saving treatment in America for Lila.
After enduring 15 months of the best care available, Lila's dream is still to become a nurse and help others like her. But first, we need to make sure she has the chance to grow up. Please, if you can, donate whatever you can big or small to give Lila the future she deserves.
HOW THE MONEY WILL BE USED
This fundraiser is organized by Lila's parents. The total of $120,000 is based on costs provided by a UK charity that helps HRN patients access treatment in America. It covers two years of treatment at Penn State, including $7,000 for medication, $66,000 for scans and diagnostic tests, $37,000 for travel and accommodation, $6,000 for pastoral care, and $4,000 for miscellaneous expenses. All funds will be transferred to the charity to pay for treatment directly to Penn State. If we can move to the NHS track once approved, any excess funds will be set aside for Lila's future health needs to address the long-term effects of childhood chemotherapy.
