In 2022, Emily Parker faced a life-altering event when an accident on the London Underground resulted in her becoming a double amputee. Despite this profound challenge, Emily’s resolve to reclaim her life has been nothing short of inspiring.
In January 2025, Emily, her family, and her two daughters, aged 9 and 13, will embark on a monumental journey to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. This climb is not just a physical challenge; it symbolizes Emily’s determination to overcome adversity and regain her independence.
The six-day ascent will be especially grueling for Emily, who wears prosthetics. She will be accompanied by a team of dedicated medical professionals, including trauma physio Dr. Laura Mitchell, prosthetic rehabilitation specialist Anna Thompson, and osteopath and movement expert Rachel Cooper. Their support will be crucial in helping Emily navigate this difficult terrain.
In honor of Emily’s courageous journey, we are raising funds for STEP UP, a charity that is close to our hearts. STEP UP is committed to reducing medical waste by collecting unused prosthetic limbs from around the UK and distributing them to amputees in low-income countries across Africa. Through this work, they are giving countless individuals the opportunity to walk, run, and live with dignity.
Your support for STEP UP can make a world of difference. By donating, you are not only helping to minimize waste but also maximizing life for those in need. Join us in backing Emily’s climb and this impactful cause. Together, we can empower amputees to take their own steps toward a brighter future.
Disclaimer: Should we exceed our fundraising goal, any additional funds will continue to support STEP UP’s ongoing mission to provide prosthetic limbs and support to those in need.
